Days to weeks before her first steps into the open, and not in a straight line. Measure her trust moments, not your calendar. Some cats keep a favourite hide for life — if yours does, and she chooses to come out anyway, that is the win.
There is no finish line where she becomes a different cat. Progress is an accumulation of small trust moments — a longer peek, a meal eaten in the open, a spot chosen a little closer to you — and it moves in fits and starts, with setbacks that are normal.
Redefine the win: staying in the room without bolting is itself a win. The honest promise is a more confident version of the cat you already have, at her own pace — not a bold, lap-sitting cat on a deadline. A formerly fearful cat may keep some limits for life, and that is an appropriate way to cope rather than a failed outcome (Galaxy, Total Cat Mojo, ch.19).
